A new job listing suggests Pokémon might be seeking to establish itself in the fast-developing Web3 space. The company behind the popular Nintendo video game series recently posted a listing for a Corporate Development Principal. The successful candidate will advise the company’s leadership on how they can explore new innovations. That said, the individual needs to be well-versed in Web3 technology.
So, having knowledge of NFTs, the Metaverse, and blockchain technology will be a huge boost for this role. Interestingly, the job posting seeks applicants who are “deeply connected to a network of investors and entrepreneurs in the technology sectors, specifically Web3 and Metaverse.”
It’s not clear whether this is an indication that Pokémon is planning to enter Web3 either through its own digital collections or by designing its own digital universe. However, what is apparent for now is that the ideal candidate will help push innovation at the company.
The Web3 Expert Will Help Pokémon Explore New Technologies
Going back to the job specification, this individual, for instance, will develop an internal “innovation challenge.” Plus, explore potential partnerships with external firms when it comes to new technologies.
For the past 25 years, Pokémon has grown to be the world’s most valuable entertainment franchise. It oversees different types of games, media, and merchandise. Additionally, it creates console and mobile games on top of TV shows, movies, toys, apparel, and a few other side projects. The company also has ties with Nintendo, which publishes its console video games outside of Japan.
Last February, Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, noted that the gaming giant saw “great potential” in the Metaverse. Even though at the time the company wasn’t in a hurry to create games that catered to this new immersive universe.
However, given the latest developments with its close associate Pokémon, things might change.
