Five months after launching .Swoosh, Nike’s Web3 community-focused platform has unveiled its first NFT drop. Dubbed ‘Our Force 1 (OF1),’ the collection is made up of Polygon NFTs that pay homage to the iconic Air Force 1 sneakers that debuted four decades ago.
According to a company statement, the drop will feature two types of NFT, the Classic Remix sneaker boxes, and the New Wave boxes. The former will hold virtual kicks that resemble AF1s that were released between 1982 and 2006, while the later will feature designs released after 2007.
To add a touch more intrigue, the Classic Remix boxes will feature an undisclosed number of additional unique, customized kicks that evoke past memories. While the New Wave boxes will have some customized, expressive AF1s that offer glimpses of future designs.
.Swoosh Community Members Contributed to Designing the Virtual Sneakers
The virtual sneaker boxes will go on sale for a very reasonable $19.82 apiece, and besides honoring the year when AF1s hit the market, the low price is geared towards generating community engagement. Interestingly, the company will not accept payments in crypto for this sale, however, there isn’t a set limit for the number of OF1s available for minting.
The virtual kicks are available to collect for all members of .Swoosh, a 330k strong Web3 community platform that Nike launched last year.
Nike worked with some of the members of the community to come up with four shoe designs that will be part of this OF1 drop. They will be randomly scattered among the different box types. According to Ron Faris, general manager of Nike Virtual Studios, “with more members choosing to express themselves across physical and digital worlds, .Swoosh is the marketplace of the future.”
On April 19, the company airdropped virtual AF1 posters to selected members, which then serve as the keys to unlock an OF1 box NFT. If fortunate enough to receive one of these NFTs, holders can start minting on May 8, well before the exercise is opened up to the wider community on May 10.
In the future, the OF1 boxes will unlock additional benefits for holders according to the company. These will come in the form of exclusive physical products and experiences.
