Leading Metaverse platform, The Sandbox, has teamed up with Playground Studios to launch the ‘Meloverse,’ a virtual experience centered around 21-year-old NBA sensation, LaMelo Ball. Fans of the Charlotte Hornets point guard will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in his world like never before, hanging out and playing in a virtual environment designed to bring them closer to their favorite athlete.
LaMelo Ball has a huge influence on Gen Z and is widely considered a trendsetter, which is precisely why The Sandbox is counting on his popularity to attract young adults to Web3 and the Metaverse. According to Sebastien Borget, cofounder and COO of The Sandbox:
“LaMelo Ball is a transfigurative personality who strongly engages with fans through social media, and we cannot wait to see what kinds of engagement he will be able to create with his community in The Sandbox.”
Everyone Can Participate in Meloverse Quests
The Meloverse’s first event is scheduled to take place from April 17 to May 1, and it’s open to everyone who has a KYC’d Sandbox account. The event will showcase Melo’s Social Hub, which includes 19 unique quests, all of which are tied to some of Melo’s favorite hobbies
By completing each quest, participants will automatically be awarded a piece of Meloverse memorabilia. These are not NFTs, but badges that can be used on the profile and can be redeemed for other benefits in the future. To be considered a winner, players must complete all 19 quests, and if successful, they will be eligible to receive a share of the 100,000 SAND prize pool (valued at $68,830 as of press time).
A company statement from The Sandbox notes that this collaboration aims to create a playground for creators, collectors, and fans worldwide. The experiences on offer will not only focus on entertainment but also education. The goal is to educate participants on how they can leverage blockchain technology “safely and effectively while having fun.”
